Philanthropic Studies as a Centering and Central Discipline in the Humanities and Liberal Education
Turner Richard C..
As an emerging discipline, Philanthropic Studies needs to articulate its place in advancing the pursuit of knowledge in general as well as to continue its contributions to the study of philanthropy. Most organized study of philanthropy has focused on non-profit management and/or the elements of organized giving most accessible to the social sciences. This paper argues that Philanthropic Studies is best understood as a pursuit in the humanities as well as the social sciences and as a central part of a liberal education.
