Keywords of Faith, Keywords of Rationality: Forces of Division or Community
The author, drawing from the "keywords" concept of Raymond Williams, intends to demonstrate the possibilities (and/or perils) of knowledge-production extant in an ongoing academic discussion group comprising of university professors, students, committed foreign missionaries (of various denominations) and Romanian Orthodox Church representatives, all focused upon "de-constructing" together a "simple keyword" of their common Christian faith. Then, the author will also seek to interject some "keywords" of "scientific rationality" into the discussion process at the appropriate moments, as a comparative grounding device.
From this dialectical process, sources of productive cooperation (or conflict) towards a more pragmatically pluralistic social environment can (perhaps) be created. It is the author's contention that individual "situated-ness", while an important starting point that must be respected, should not be the end-point of social discourse, for then no "reasonable" dialogue on social issues of common value will ever be possible.
The presentation will share some of the findings of this process for further discussion and exploration
